Sydney Sage is an Alchemist, one of a group of humans who dabble in magic and serve to bridge the worlds of humans and vampires. Alchemists protect vampire secrets - and human lives.

In the aftermath of a forbidden moment that rocked Sydney to her core, she struggles to draw the line between her Alchemist teachings and what her heart is urging her to do.

Then she finally tracks down the elusive, enigmatic Marcus Finch - a former Alchemist who the organization denies exists, and who lives in shadows, on the run. With Marcus's help, Sydney realizes that the group she's been loyal to her whole life has been hiding the truth from her. Is it possible that her golden lily tattoo might have more power over her than she thinks?

As she struggles to come to terms with what that might mean, Sydney is compelled to use her magical powers to track down an evil magic user who is targeting powerful young witches. Using magic goes against everything she always thought she believed, but she realizes that her only hope is to embrace her special blood - or else she might be next.

Forging her own way is harder than Sydney ever dreamed. Maybe by turning off her brain - and following her heart - she'll be able to finally figure out where she belongs.

It's been a while since I've read a book that made me so happy. I don't know if it's because I'm overly emotional right now or something, but this book... I DEVOURED this book and I don't regret one moment of it. First book of the year and, if this is any indication of what's to come, I'll gladly take it.

At this point, we all know about Sydney's dedication as an Alchemist. But now, due to many previous events, her trust has started to shaken... and she is understandably unsure on what she should do about this. After all, this is something she has grown up with all of her life. It's not easy to shake something like that off. But when she finally discovers the hidden Marcus Finch, she discovers something incredibly unbelievable- her group has been hiding something from her... something that she can't wrap her head around. On top of that, her teacher Mrs. Terwilliger is convinced that she's in danger and need to use her natural magic powers to protect herself. All, in the mists of this, she struggles to figure out what's truly right.

I didn't want to finish this story, to be quite honest, and to add to the burn- it left itself on a cliffhanger... and such a cliffhanger! The story was consistent and there were plenty of twists and turns that kept me on edge. With how the story was written in Sydney's perspective, I found myself surprised many of times. On top of that, there was the romance... or, what little there was during the whole book. I found myself rooting for them the whole time and, secretly, I had hoped that Sydney and Adrian would be together despite the obvious reasons that they couldn't be together: Adrian's Morai and Sydney's human. All of this wrapped up very nicely and I didn't feel the story plot or the romance overpowered each other. It was a nice balance and, honestly, I think this is one of the author's best books thus far. I can't say this enough: I love this. I love this, I love this, I love this.

I'm grabbing my hands on The Fiery Heart ASAP!! But, for now, I must be patient. I'm not much of a patient person...
